What you Need
DecoArt Chalky paint- Primitive
Blue Skies twine
20cmx20cm Wooden Chopping Board
Hammer & Nails (approx. 60)
How to Make
1.Firstly, paint your 20cmx20cm wooden chopping board with the DecoArt Chalky Primitive paint, ensuring to do a few layers to cover the entire board, leave to dry.
2.Print out the free template and cut out the butterfly shape. Place this in the middle of your board. Working in a circle, begin to hammer in your nails around the design.
3.You will want to space out your nails at approximately 1cm apart. To achieve extra detail, particularly around the centre of your butterfly, hammer the nails closer together.
4.Once you have finished hammering in your nails, pull out your template.
5.It’s time to get stringy! There is no particular way to do this, simply take your Dovecraft Back to Basics Blue Twine, tie it around one nail then begin to loop it around the nails.
6.You want to make sure that each wing gets a similar amount of twine to balance the piece.
7.Go whichever direction that takes your fancy, overlap your twine as many times as you like, the trick is to make sure you wrap the Blue Skies twine around each nail.
8.You will want the body of the butterfly to be more pronounced, so make sure you wrap the twine along the edges as you fill in the shape, to make an outline.
9.We have used the entire 30m roll of Blue Skies twine but it is up to you how much or little twine you’d like to add to your piece.
And there you have it, a pretty, DIY string art home décor piece that will sit pretty on any wall! This make would look fantastic in alternative colours or with added embellishments; it’s totally up to you!
