swine flu in our schools

Permanent Linkby tracy43 on Mon Jul 13, 2009 3:44 pm

halfway home from taking emma to school got four text telling me 3 teachers have gone down with mild flu like symptons, seems a pupis relative was confirmed as having swine flu was quarantined but the children went to school as usual, majority of our year 10s left the building as soon as they could. was meant to be the parents requesting this happen but most of the students hung round the area, they have said they are taking tuesday off as well returning on wednesday for the trip to blackpool then taking the rest of the week off. we have been told it is now so common place that you could pick it up in asda or the trafford centre or even someone walking past you in the street who sneezes. hollie has also come home with a letter stating there is a known case of it a family member of a child attending her school, my daughter told me this on friday but i was dubious about believing it outright knowing kids make jokes about this sort of thing. seems now its a case of well we have been amongst it will we get it or wont we. the health authority are now not reccomending school closures as its becoming so widespread now and if you have symptons not to go to medical centres or hospital/drs surgeries. reading the list of people with underlying illnesses it appears people with lung chest problems and people with diabetis, i was suprised not to see asthmatics there. my daughter in law is refusing my girls entry to her house, wonder if she will be so eager to avoid us on thursday the day i have ellie for a few hours and wonders if she will go in work for the rest of the week. hmmmm

It's very worrying, Tracy. I heard there are 4 people with swine flu on isolation ward at Preston hospital. I live near Blackpool - so it wont be long before it gets here (it probably is already). I work in a school, lots of kids cough and sneeze anyway but I've really started cringeing everytime now - as you never know...
Hope you and your girls keep well

Most cases are mild and no need to panic. This flu is out there and can be picked up anywhere. On the list of those at risk are pregnant women and chronic asthmatics. Dont know anyone who has it round here but its probably is. Try not to panic too much.
