this was a new technique for me so i thought i would try and tell you how i did it.
polychromos are oil based blendable crayons they lay down a lot of colour that is blendable by either a blending pencil or blending oil like zest-it or sansador.
I just just three colours- a dark blue and a mid blue- red and yellow. this project is coloured on the reverse side of the parchment. and on this occasion i did not have to worry about going out side the pattern lines as I planned to cut it our and mount it.
starting with the dark blue i coloured one section of the fan then with the mid blue i coloured the next section.
using yellow i then coloured the next 6 sections and the last three sections in red.
now here comes the clever bit
starting at the blue end of the fan i overlaid some of the yellow with the mid blue starting with lots of colour and getting more random with the colouring untill i got to section 4
then starting at the red end- section three i mixed the red with the yellow again getting more random as i reached the centre sections.
if you remember your colours- red and Yellow make orange and blue and yellow make green.
Now using a tissue and zest-it i started to blend the pencils so that the colours run into each other. I did this at both ends changing the tissue regularly so as not to turn the colours to mud. then left it to dry. the drying time seems to develop the colours
I have to say that it is not me who is clever but my tutor at my parchment class who teaches me this stuff.
thanks to all of you who have commented on this project.
By the way my parchment pisces fish were coloured using the same method but i have used a selection of red orange and yellow. the blending was achieved with a blending pencil.
